Hiroshima and Nagasaki

On 6 August, a modified B-29 dropped a uranium gun-type bomb codenamed "Little Boy" on Hiroshima. Three days later, on 9 August, a plutonium implosion-type bomb codenamed "Fat Man" was dropped by another B-29 on Nagasaki. These actions directly led to the surrender of the Empire of Japan and the Allied Victory in World War II.
